About us

Renting was never meant to be this complicated.

KORU was born in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. We saw how complicated and tedious renting a vehicle was, both for the person renting it and for the person putting it up for rent: informal deals, paperwork, uncertain payments and no one to call if something went wrong.

We decided that wasn't how we wanted it to be. So we created KORU: a single platform where travellers book in minutes and vehicle owners get customers, get paid securely and work with a digital contract. We started in Oaxaca and we're going all along the coast of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Letter from the founder

Be disruptive and dream as big as you possibly can.

I paused my studies to chase something bigger. I arrived in Puerto Escondido without a fully formed idea, and it was along the way that this project started to grow until it became KORU.

Before KORU I worked in business development in the United States, in marketing and in product development. I brought all of that to the coast with a single idea: that renting a vehicle should be simple for everyone.

The KORU story

From an idea on the beach to a nationwide platform.

  1. The original hand-painted KORU sign

That is how it all started. Renting an ATV or a jeep meant haggling over WhatsApp, paying in cash and crossing your fingers. That's where the idea of doing it differently was born: a reliable service, with clear rules and an identity of its own.

  2. Planning KORU at night next to a hammock

We went from idea to plan. We defined the business model, built the KORU brand and designed how to operate on the coast, from handing over the vehicle to the digital contract.

  3. A KORU ATV on a street in Puerto Escondido

We took to the streets with ATVs, scooters and jeeps in Puerto Escondido. Every rental taught us what travellers are looking for: delivery wherever they are, clear prices and a real person on the other end of the phone.

  4. Trademark registration document on a desk facing the sea

We protected the KORU trademark in Mexico with IMPI and in the United States with the USPTO. A step towards growing on solid ground in both countries.

  5. Working from a jeep by the sea at sunset

April became our best month since day one. The demand confirmed that travellers are looking for a more reliable way to get around the coast.

  6. KORU DESK open on a laptop at the airport

We opened KORU to verified local providers. Today, vehicle owners in the area receive bookings, get paid securely and work with a digital contract, without having to do it all on their own.

  7. Insurance coverage quote

We signed a partnership with an insurer to create insurance built specifically for renting. Owners rent out their vehicles without paying lawyers or drafting contracts: the whole process is automated inside KORU.

  8. A Mexican coastal road at sunset, seen from a jeep

The next goal is to take KORU to the whole of Mexico, with the same standard we built in Puerto Escondido in every destination we reach.
